Reysean Abram was shot on the 4700 block of Enid Way Friday night and was transported to The Children's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Denver Police.
Around the Montbello neighborhood, people are at a loss.
"What are 13-year-old kids doing with guns anyway," neighbor Lemon Oliver asked.
Police
said Abram was shot in the street Friday night just days before his
14th birthday. Friends told 7NEWS the teen left a party where there had
been a fight and was about a block away when someone shot him.
"Everybody's just hurt. I wish they could just find out who did it," said Brittney Reed, a friend of the victim.
Friends told 7NEWS the teen had just left a party following a fight. He made it about a block on his bike.
"I heard brrr pop pop pop first. Then about 2 or 3 minutes later I heard a pop pop pop," said Oliver.
In
total, Oliver said he heard a series of 14 shots. Reed heard the
sirens that night but didn't realize it was her friend inside the
ambulance.
"They just took somebody's life and it just makes me mad," Reed said.
Police
said they don't have reason to believe the shooting is gang related but
Facebook photos show the teen flashing what appears to be gang signs.
Acquaintances who didn't want to go on camera said the teen was not in a
gang but was known to affiliate with gang members.
Friends said he'll be remembered as a well liked 13-year-old who was always able to make people laugh.
"I'm just going to miss seeing his face because he's not here anymore," said Reed.
