I never understood what people meant whenever they said GEJ never loses a battle until I saw the outcome of the elections. The 2015 presidential election wasn't just a battle between GEJ and GMB, it was also a battle between GEJ and OBJ. Everyone who knows Nigeria well, knows that OBJ spent his time in office, trying to create a name for himself in Africa. Eventually, he left office and became one of Africa's most respected former leaders. GEJ however had more issues on his neck while he was Nigeria's president, and I'm sure he almost had no time to think of Africa. But after losing the elections, GEJ performed an act that made him leap frog OBJ to being one of Africa's greatest. His singular act of congratulating the winner, made the whole world and all of Africa respect him. In some quarters he's been described as the father of modern democracy in Nigeria. Even the APC which I never thought would ever use the name Jonathan and commend in the same sentence has this to say through Alhaji Lai Mohammed by that singular act, which went a long way in dousing post-election tension, the President had snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. It also noted that Jonathan had written his name in gold in the annals of Nigeria’s history and catapulted himself to a statesman. Also, Mo Ibrahim a man who has never said anything about OBJ had this to say about GEJ; Thank you Mr President. If you are seeking a legacy, you have definitely achieved it.” If GEJ eventually wins the Mo Ibrahim award for 2015, then he'd definitely be smiling all over Africa, far more than OBJ is smiling. When the UN, AU, Commonwealth, etc looks for an African democrat to use an example, they'd definitely use GEJ, while OBJ falls into the category of so many former presidents. Nigerian Army finds General Mohammadu Buhari's missing certificate:
Matters Arising
Someone working for the PDP obviously removed the certificate from his file at the Defence Headquarters.
This is part of the strategies the PDP deployed in their campaign of calumny.
All
Change Agents who worked tirelessly to repel the Jonahideens should pop
something wherever you are. We know it was foolhardy to say that Buhari
had no certificate. But try as we did to convince them that this was a
non issue, they refused to shift ground. It was even most disgraceful
that the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign organisation
was a Retired Colonel, in the person of Ahmadu Ali. He should have
cautioned them about bringing the Military to disrepute. He did not.
This singular act as far as I am concerned did more damage than good to the PDP.
Beyond
bringing out Buhari's certificate, there is an urgent need to restore
pride and sanity to the military. As it stands now, the Nigerian Army,
is an Army of anything goes! There have to be a clean sweep and overhaul
of the military from top to bottom! The entire top echelon at the
Defence Headquarters should turn in their resignation and leave with
President Goodluck Jonathan on the 29th of May, so that the process of
rebuilding and restoration shall begin in earnest.
